BASIC PLANTING & WATERING INSTRUCTIONS

It is our commitment to provide you with quality plant material and the information you need to ensure proper planting and maintenance of your landscape material.

#1 - IT IS IMPORTANT to choose plant species that are adaptable to your site conditions and climates.  We often think of the climate of our region. In general,  keep in mind, many “micro-climates” can exist in your landscape and garden areas.

#2 - PLANTING  B&B TREES & SHRUBS:

A:  Dig the planting hole for B&B Trees or shrubs at least

1 foot wider  than the root ball.

B:  Thoroughly water B&B stock before planting since a

dry root ball  may not get completely wet after planting.

C:  The planting depth should be the same as in the field

where the plant was grown.  Discoloration on the bark

near ground-level will indicate the soil level.

D:  Remove nylon rope and burlap away from the trunk.

E:  Backfill the hole - (Avoid leaving Air Pockets)

Firm the Soil and settle it with water.

#3 - PLANTING CONTAINER STOCK:

Planting container stock is basically the same

A:  Dig a hole wider than the root ball.

B:  Remove the plant from the container.

If the plant is root bound  slice the roots with a knife.

C:  Water the container plants thoroughly before installing.

D:  Place in the planting hole.  Backfill the hole to the

top of the  rootball.  Firm the soil and water.

IMPORTANT PLANTING TIPS:

- Read Planting Instructions

- Prune any broken or damaged branches or roots  before planting.

- Water thoroughly at Planting.

- Space plants according to their mature size.

- Do not skimp on the size of the planting hole.

- Don’t plant too deep.

- Don’t handle plant material by their tops.

WATERING INSTRUCTIONS

The most important thing to remember is to water your plants only                                     when needed and soak the soil deeply.  If you don’t know for sure when to                             water - dig down  6-8” and check the soil moisture.  A plant needs air as much                             as water.  Frequent watering keeps the soil saturated and stops the necessary                            air movement.

However, prolonged intervals between watering - short of drought                                  damage - gives plants the maximum encouragement for growth.
